Ashok Leyland inaugurates Model School at Alinjivakkam near Chennai


Panchayat Union Middle School, Alinjiwakkam has been developed as a Model School by Ashok Leyland as a part of the CSR – Road to School Program. This project was inaugurated on 21st June by Mr N V Balachandar, President-HR, Communication & CSR. Senior officials from Ashok Leyland, Education Department and local community representatives were present during the occasion.

We at Ashok Leyland want to drive real, meaningful change among the student community. For us the Road to School Program initiative is not just a CSR program it is something that draws company-wide involvement. The ‘Road to School’ helps nurture both scholastic and co-scholastic development of children from government schools in remote locations covering health, personal hygiene, wellness, & nutrition supplement, and emotional development including sports and music.

The ‘Road to School’ program which was started in the year 2015 with 36 schools in Shoolagiri and Thally, in Krishnagiri district, Tamilnadu has expanded its wings in the districts of Thiruvallur, Namakkal & Salem in the last 3 years to cover 714 schools impacting 56000 children.


One Lakh Seed bombs were dispersed on World Environment day


Plant life provides 80 percent of our human diet, and we rely on agriculture as an important economic resource and means of development.  Forests account for 30 percent of the Earth’s surface, providing vital habitats for millions of species and important sources for clean air and water; as well as being crucial for combating climate change.  The SDGs aim to conserve and restore the use of terrestrial ecosystems such as forests, wetlands, drylands and mountains by 2020.

RTS Children from Chennai, Namakkal and Hosur prepared and dispersed 20,000 seed bombs on the 9th June 2018. Ashok Leyland DETs of 2018 batch also joined this initiative to dispose 12,000 on the road side and around the Lakes. Under the employee volunteering program 10,000 seed bombs were dispersed on the 14th June 2018.

Besides, Ashok Leyland has donated 45000 seed bombs to People Society of Hosur and also distributed some at the Toll Gate to those crossing by. 13000 seed bombs were donated to Vasavi Club Denkanikottai and dispersed in the forest area along with the forest department on the 22nd June 2018.


RTS Children excel in ‘Wealth out of Waste’ project


The students from Ashok Leyland’s Road to School (RTS) project participated in the Reliability Expo organized by the Central Quality team of Ashok Leyland and exhibited their creativity by displaying the items and artworks crafted from waste material - ‘Wealth out of Waste.’ They also had other displays like ‘Children’s Parliament’ and ‘Honesty Shop’ where they exhibited the core values they acquired from the ‘Road to School’ project.


Ashok Leyland introduces breakfast program in association with AkshayaPatra

According to reports, 33.6 percent of Indian women are chronically undernourished, and 55 percent are anemic and thus children born to such women are also anemic and malnourished. Aligned to the National Agenda of improving health and nutrition amongst underprivileged children from Government Schools, Ashok Leyland signed an MOU with AkshayaPatra, Bangalore for introducing breakfast to over 15,000 children in Hosur area. The employees of the company have also volunteered to contribute towards this program.
