Ashok Leyland Defence System signs MOU with Russia's Rosonboronexport The MOU signed is for a Comprehensive Upgrade of BMP2

Ashok Leyland Defence System (ALDS) signed an MOU with Russia's Rosonboronexport during the International Military Technical Forum – Army 2017 held at Kubinka, near Moscow, on 25th August 2017. The MOU was signed in the presence of Mr. Amandeep Singh, Head Defence, Ashok Leyland, Mr. Ashok Gupta, Secretary (Defence Production) Govt of India and Mr. Sergey S. Goreslavskiy, Deputy Director General, Rosonboronexport.

Ashok Leyland, flagship of the Hinduja has been the largest supplier of logistics vehicles to the Indian Army for the past over 25 years, having supplied more than 75000 vehicles. The company is now ready to take the next big step towards providing tracked vehicle mobility solutions to Indian Army, which is looking for up-gradation of its fleet of BMPs and MBTs.

Congratulating ALDS, ELCOM, and Rosoboronexport team, Mr. Vinod K. Dasari, Managing Director of Ashok Leyland, , said, “Ashok Leyland is fully committed to make Hon’ble Prime Minister's ‘Make in India’ in Defence sector a resounding success. The MOU, signed is for a Comprehensive Upgrade of BMP2, opens up as a huge opportunity for ALDS in the expansion of its global footprint. With a host of proven products currently in service with the Indian Army, the company is continuously looking to expand its portfolio into areas of need for the Indian Armed Forces.”

Signing the MOU on behalf of ALDS Mr. Amandeep Singh, Head Defence, Ashok Leyland, said, "Russian companies who are OEMs of tracked vehicles currently being used in India are ideally suited for providing know-how on its various systems and subsystems upgrades. The issue of indigenization and availability of service and parts, which has been an area of concern, will now be addressed as ALDS and ELCOM will be responsible for manufacturing in India and also for providing life cycle support. We are happy that Rosoboronexport which represents almost all Russian OEMs in Defence has chosen ALDS and ELCOM as its partners in India to address the Tracked Vehicle Upgrade Programs of Indian Armed Forces."

The journey of ALDS from being a logistics vehicle supplier to a complete land-mobility solution provider to Army, received a shot in the arm when they were shortlisted by the Defence force as one of the vendors for repowering of BMPs. Ashok Leyland serves as the only contributor in the industry by giving its 100% indigenously designed, developed and manufactured Engine.

Ashok Leyland Stallion (ALS) has also proved its calibre in many instances during various operations and deployments of Indian Army. Lately, Ashok Leyland has expanded its portfolio to special role vehicles and has bagged orders from Indian Army for vehicles like HMV 8x8, FAT 6x6, Ambulances and MBRL, which have successfully replaced imported vehicles. Ashok Leyland has also ventured into missile carriers on 10x10 and 12x12 platforms.
